‘Vincenzo’ Episode 4: Reactions, Review & Recap

What did we just watch? Vincenzo episode 4 had so many twists and turns that kept up us on our toes from the very first minute. If there’s one word to describe that episode, it’s freakin’ intense!

We learn the fate of Yu-Chan and Vincenzo after the truck knocks them out, Badass Cha-Young is born alongside the return of Badass Vincenzo, and in the end, the real Big Bad of the show is revealed. Hint: it’s not Ms. Choi!

Vincenzo Episode 4 Reactions

1. Loooord, how is Cha-Young gonna take this? Yu-Chan looks dead dead… and of course, Vincenzo just gets good-looking blood stains on his polo.

2. Side note: can you imagine if they actually did kill off Vincenzo and Yu-Chan, and Cha-Young replaces them as the lead? I wouldn’t complain.

3. Oh shit, they REALLY killed off Yu-Chan. I was not expecting that.

4. And of course Babel made sure to ruin his name just to place the cherry on top.

5. Ms. Choi’s Zumba skills JUST got creepy. No one knew how creepy it truly was until they let us see her dance in slow motion.

6. Oh no, the tenants. Y’all why is this episode so sad and it’s not even five minutes? I think I’m gonna cry.

7. This is it: Cha-Young’s backstory.

8. Boo you, Ms. Choi. Why is this guy looking at her like he’s shocked that she was this evil? You knew what you were getting into when you recruited her into Wusang, ya dank.

9. Five bucks says Cha-Young is taking over the law firm.

10. Oh wow, Chef Toto’s pupil is actually good? And he’s defending Vincenzo?

11. I just realized Cha-Young was probably on her way to the bar to apologize to Yu-Chan when the truck collision happened, and that’s just… sad.

12. LOL, Vincenzo wakes up because of Cha-Young’s tantrum. And of course, he looks good.

13. Vincenzo is being unnecessarily rude to Cha-Young, and not in a charming bad boy kinda way.

14. Calm yourselves, tenants. He’s literally just been in the hospital for two weeks.

15. I love this new non-nonsense Hong Cha-Young. We’ll call her Badass Cha-Young.

16. Did Ms. Choi just tell Cha-Young to know her place and then grabbed her neck? The audacity of this woman.

17. I’m telling you: Joon-Woo has more sexual chemistry with Cha-Young than Vincenzo. Aww, he’s following her like a lost puppy! How adorable.

18. So Mr. Cho is still in the hospital. I was wondering where he went.

19. That pillow with all the syringes was creepier than it needed to be.

20. We’re now witnessing Cha-Young’s redemption tour. I don’t think it’ll be easy to gain the trust of these tenants though; they flip-flop too much on the people they trust.

21. Is watching opera on TV while drinking wine what Koreans think Italians like to do in their free time?

22. See?! Jang Joon-Woo was the first guy to come to Cha-Young’s aid. How could you not root for him and Cha-Young?

23. My colonized ass thought this was Mcdonald’s.

24. The truck driver getting stabbed because of Vincenzo’s stunt is pretty dark. But I love how Cha-Young is just “annoyed” by what happened. She got over that pretty fast. Notice Vincenzo awkwardly not saying anything when Cha-Young says “no more deaths”…

25. LMAO, this guy getting up from nowhere like The Undertaker.

26. I believe this is the first time since the first episode where we got to see Vincenzo physically fight somebody. I missed this.

27. I love how Cha-Young isn’t totally against this kidnapping and threatening thing. So rare to see characters like these in K-dramas.

28. Oh shit, he shot the guy… in front of Cha-Young! This episode is one shocker after another.

29. Yes, Vincenzo. I didn’t think you were really gonna shoot him!

Ms. Choi’s deadly encounter

30. Ms. Choi did not know who she was messing with.

31. KILL HER! Kill her now!

32. Alright, maybe sparing her life was the right choice, but seeing her scream is more than enough.

33. I’m really glad the ruthless Italian mob lawyer is back in Korea because I thought he was just going to be Mr. Nice Guy forever. It’s probably Yu-Chan’s influence rubbing off on him, so the minute he died, Vincenzo jumped back to his old self.

34. Vincenzo explosion count: 5. Cha-Young’s smile watching it burn down is delicious. That’s what revenge tastes like.

35. So the kidnapped guy wasn’t dead all along! I did not see that twist coming. This episode is bonkers.

36. Aww, why is this making me tear up, seeing the clients of Yu-Chan come together to fight Babel in his honor?

37. Are you freaking kidding me?! Joon-Woo…. IS THE BOSS OF BABEL? HOLY SHIT.

Vincenzo Episode 4 Review & Recap

Where do I even begin with this review? I am writing this just moments after finishing that episode, and I can’t even wrap my head about so many things that happened. Like I said earlier, it was pretty intense from the get-go.

The first thing that shocked me in Vincenzo episode 4 was Hong Yu-Chan’s death. Even if I thought there was a slight chance of him dying, I really thought he was safe because he still had some unfinished business. I presumed he was still going to have some fights with Vincenzo because of RDU-90 and the latter’s mob background, as well as being able to fix his relationship with Cha-Young.

But his death really set a precedent that anything can happen in this K-drama.

While we only got short scenes of characters grieving his death, seeing his clients and daughter cry over him got to my heart a bit. And the decision to insert the scene of Ms. Choi dancing and smiling at the news was a pretty evil move. If you had read my real-time reactions above, you would’ve noticed that the opening sequence threw me for a loop.

I will say that Vincenzo needed Yu-Chan’s death to happen because up to this point, the show seemed to have too many things going on at once without a single element unifying all the cluttered storylines. Now, not only did our characters get a worthy motivation to come after Babel, but it also feels like the show is moving in a certain direction.

Hong Cha-Young continues to steal the show as we saw her transform from the bratty lawyer of Wusang to… well, a bratty lawyer who takes over her dad’s law firm. It was a natural progression from her character who always had a consistent soft spot for her father despite the arguments that she would instigate with him.

What’s better than Cha-Young? A Cha-Young who’s out for revenge.

We quickly got a staredown between her and Ms. Choi, which you all know I was just dying to see since the previous episode. This happened when our favorite heroine filed for her resignation, and the both of them did not wait a second to exchange heated words with each other. I could not with Ms. Choi when she grabbed Cha-Young’s neck.

Get your nasty hands off her!

Cha-Young is taking over the Geumga Plaza building drama from here, and honestly, it’s quite possibly the least relevant storyline going into Vincenzo episode 4. While I love all of the building tenants, not much has progressed with regards to their situation since the first episode. It’s still the same ol’ “do we want to trust Vincenzo?” shtick that’s been happening since he came into the scene.

Furthermore, the more interesting Babel debacle just emphasized how the gold underneath the building was nothing but a plot device to get Vincenzo into Korea.

If there’s anything I loved in this episode, it’s the return of the Vincenzo from Italy who kicked so much ass. We were introduced to the ruthless mafia consigliere in the very first 17 minutes of the series — a consigliere that blew up an entire mansion, and shot three guys.

But when he flew to Korea, it seemed like our beloved Vincenzo had lost his edge.

Well if you missed that version of Vincenzo like me, then you’re in luck because we saw some shades of that persona in this episode. Vincenzo gets up from his deep sleep after being in the hospital for two weeks (in a comedic fashion, may I add). He was back on his feet pretty instantly, and seemed more pissed that he got caught up in the truck collision more than the fact that Yu-Chan is dead.

His first order of business was leaving a disturbing threat with Mr. Han in the form of a pillow injected with syringes. Unfortunately, Cha-Young was wrongfully arrested for this deed, which led to Vincenzo helping her prove her innocence after some contemplation over a televised Italian opera.

The misunderstanding seems to have made the duo realize that they should both stick together if they want to after Babel.

And so they do. They talked with the driver of the truck who killed Hong Yu-Chan, but he was stubborn enough not to reveal anything to them. In one of the darkest moments of the episode, Vincenzo turned the tables by pretending that the driver had spilled the tea while a “prison guard” (read: Babel insider) was in earshot… he was stabbed to death not long afterwards.

I was pretty surprised by how unapologetic our main characters were when they learned about the driver’s death. They had to know what would happen to him when they did that, but all we got was an “oopsie, let’s not do that again”.

I’m not mad about it though; in fact, I found it pretty hilarious. It made me think if there were any other K-dramas I’ve watched with such morally gray leads whom we were supposed to root for, and I couldn’t name any. Maybe Sky Castle?

That’s what makes Vincenzo so unique: no one is truly good in the world of mafias and pharmaceutical companies.

With the aid of a rando (seriously, is he from the Geumga Plaza?), they kidnap the two men who killed the Babel whistleblower. Vincenzo tries to make one of them name the person behind the truck hit in a tension-filled scene that involved chair ropes and a gun.

Then, bang!

My mouth literally made a perfect O-shape when Vincenzo shot the other guy in the chest! I don’t know about you, but I bought that he was dead. I freakin’ bought it, especially with Cha-Young panicking so frantically throughout it all.

All I could think of throughout the rest of the scene was how Cha-Young could ever forgive and fall for a brutal man like Vincenzo.

The only thing that would’ve given it away for me was their nonchalance after the whole thing, but up until the reveal that the rando was actually a special effects guy who only made the gunshot seem real, I bought it.

And now we go to their next victim in the Revenge Tour: Ms. Choi. As you can tell from my reactions watching Vincenzo episode 4, I was all in support of Team Vincenzo’s fear-mongering against her. I couldn’t stand that woman dancing so happily in the laundromat after what she did to poor Yu-Chan. Thank God for Vincenzo and his Jenga tower though, because watching him recreate the truck collision on Ms. Choi until she was screaming for her life was delicious.

I know Cha-Young probably had a trip with that one.

I don’t mind the fact that she’s still alive now because I love to hate her. And as sadistic as it may sound, I want to see her suffer just a bit more. It tells a lot about her character that she would choose to not clear up Yu-Chan’s muddled-up name even if it meant her dying.

In their last act of revenge for this episode, our now-favorite duo plus Special Effects Rando blow up a Babel Pharmaceuticals laboratory. They got some help from some of Yu-Chan’s former clients which I must say, is a pretty fire way to honor his name. Ha, fire… get it?

But hold up! Just when we think the episode is gonna end, we get to the biggest reveal and shocker of all. The man behind Babel is actually… Joon-Woo! Yes, as in Cha-Young’s assistant Joon-Woo.

The endearing little guy who calls Cha-Young sunbae and followed her in the back of a truck, the former New Yorker who would randomly blurted out English phrases, the guy whom I was shipping a lot with Cha-Young… is the Big Bad of the show. Mind. Blown.

I was pretty speechless about this revelation, but I was informed that the promos for the show would’ve made this less shocking than it was supposed to be. Well am I happy to have not bothered with watching those. I’m still gutted that the 0.1% chance of Joon-Woo getting in a romantic relationship with Cha-Young has now been reduced to the negatives, but I see how this is a better outcome in the long run.

That ending was a perfect way to end a loaded episode from start to finish. We finally got the action of which we were merely teased with in the first episode, and more.

I’m really sorry to say this, but Hong Yu-Chan’s death was the best thing to happen in this show. Everything has just been going in fast forward after that, and suddenly, what had once been a cute K-drama became must-watch TV!

If I had to nitpick something that I didn’t like about this episode, it’s Vincenzo’s apparent indifference towards Yu-Chan’s death. I found it questionable since I thought they had developed quite the bond in the short time that they spent together. However, I am willing to give the benefit of the doubt with that choice because I do see why that (lack of) reaction would be in line with his character.

The awesomeness of everything that happened in the second half after Vincenzo and Cha-Young team up for real has inadvertently made the building drama in the past episodes seem pretty small and insignificant. So next week, I am hoping that something shakes up that particular storyline since I am this close to being over it. Hidden gold in the basement just doesn’t scream amazing TV.

And if it isn’t obvious to you yet, I do believe Vincenzo episode 4 is the best one of the series by far. There was a lot of storyline progression with so much action, some tears and laughter, and a few twists that actually caught me off-guard.
